Introduction

The hypothalamus plays a huge role in both the endocrine and nervous systems

Hypothalamus lies in the brain and is located beneath the thalamus and above the pituitary gland. It is a part of the brain which contains number of small nuclei. It has various important functions.    The most important jobs of hypothalamus is to make linkage between nervous system with endocrine through the pituitary gland. It is a part of limbic system as well.  The brain of all vertebrates consist hypothalamus. In the case of human it size is as big as that of an almond. Basically it plays important role in hormone production and contributes in stimulating many important processes in the body. The function of this is very important.  If it does not work properly many kinds of disorder in the body arises and so it is very important that it should work properly to have low risk of health. Although it is small area of the brain it plays big role in the body by producing   both in the endocrine and nervous system.

Hypothalamus Functions

In medical terminology homeostasis refers to the balance state of the body.  Homeostasis state in the body is very important, so the body always try to keep their state in balance state and to maintain that states it is hypothalamus that plays vital role. To maintain body in balance state hypothalamus plays a role of
Connector between endocrine and nervous systems. It plays essential role in functions of the body like
1.   Body temperature   2. Thirst   3. Appetite and weight 4. Control Emotions 5. Sleep cycles 6. Sex drives Childbirth 7. Blood pressure and heart rate 8.  Production of digestive juices 9. Balancing bodily fluids
In case of unbalance in the body hypothalamus releases the right hormones into the blood stream to create a state of balance in the body. One of the examples is the stability of body temperature of 98.6°F. When hypothalamus receives the indication that the body's internal temperature is too hot, it tells body to sweat. If it obtains the indication that the temperature is too cold, the body will generate its own heat by quivering.

Hormones of the hypothalamus

Hypothalamus is accountable for creating or monitoring different hormones in the body. The hypothalamus is also associated to the pituitary gland, which makes and drives other significant hormones around the body.
The hypothalamus and pituitary gland controls entire endocrine system, the glands that yield numerous hormones of the body. These are adrenal glands, kidneys, and thyroid. Here is some of the hormones work produced by the hypothalamus are as listed below
Anti-diuretic hormone, which monitor the amount water absorbed into the blood by the kidneys
Corticotrophin-releasing hormones which regulate metabolism and immune response working together with the pituitary gland and adrenal gland to release some certain steroids
Gonadotropin-releasing hormones wich convey pituitary gland to deliver hormones which keep the sexual organs functioning
Oxytocin which involved in many procedures such as release of a mother's breast milk, temperature of body and regulating sleeping cycles
Prolactin-controlling hormones command pituitary gland, either start or stop the production breast milk in lactating mommies
Thyrotrophic-releasing hormone work is to activate the thyroid.  this hormones regulate metabolism, energy levels, and age-related growth
Growth hormones are directly influenced by the hypothalamus. It commands the pituitary gland, either increase or decreases their number in the body which is important in case of growing children and developed adults.

Hypothalamus disorders

When hypothalamus does not work properly it is said a hypothalamic disease. It is very difficult to identify since hypothalamus has wide range of roles in the endocrine system. Again hypothalamus also plays very important role in signaling to the pituitary gland to deliver hormones to the rest of the endocrine system. In this way it becomes very difficult for a doctor to diagnose which gland isn't performing properly. This kind of disorder is referring as hypothalamus-pituitary disorders. In this situation doctors used to suggest for some hormone tests to get the root of disorder

Causes and risk factors

Mostly hypothalamus diseases happen due to the injury in the head. This is because due to head injury there is an impact in hypothalamus. Surgeries as well as radiation could also have an effect in hypothalamus. Sometimes genetic link could also be the cause of hypothalamus disease. It is said and written in many books that hypothalamus disease may cause
Bulimia or anorexia (eating disorders)
Excess of iron building in the body (Genetic disorders)
Starvation
Inflammation
Pollutions
Over bleeding

Hypothalamus disorders Symptoms

Symptoms of hypothalamus disorders depend on hormones status in the body.  Children could have abnormal growth and abnormal puberty. Adults may have problems linked with the various hormones their bodies cannot produce. If a person has overactive thyroid gland he could symptoms of
1.   Sensitivity to cold, 2. Depression .3. Tiredness  4. Impotence 5. Hair loss 6. Menstrual cycle changes 7. Constipation 8. Lower mental capacity 9. Weight gain

Diet tips for hypothalamus health

Hypothalamus has vital role in the body. So it is very important to maintain its health healthy.   However if someone has effect due to genetic cause it is very difficult to avoid. To maintain hypothalamus health there are some diets that can give some relef from it when taken daily.
Research on this has reveal that diets which are high in saturated fats can change the function of hypothalamus that regulates hunger and energy disbursement. High saturated fats are found in lard, meat, and dairy products. High saturated fatty diets also have inflammatory effect which affects the immune system that makes healthy body cells
Polyunsaturated fatty diet such as omega-3 helps to reverse the inflammation. These types of fats are good option other types of oils and fats. Fish, walnuts, flax seeds, and leafy vegetables which has high omega-3 contains support the hypothalamus and helps brain to function well.
Vitamin-rich fruits and vegetables
Vitamin C
B vitamins
Proper hypothalamus is one of the most significant parts of the body. With the help of these diets hypothalamus remains happy and working perfectly.
